the challenge

This project's guidelines included building a digitally driven physical pop-up style location that provides an easier and better user experience to a chosen social service. Guiding research question: How Might We design a UX/UI system that can bring services to where they are needed by citizens while implementing a digital solution to facilitate the experience?

the approach

We decided to expand Break Bread Break Borders to a pop-up event because of their goals as a non-profit organization and connection to current social services in Texas. By taking their mission to aid Afghan Refugees coming to Texas, we saw an opportunity to bring the community together by recruiting volunteers and donors to help.

the on-site app

This app will help donation drop-off happen faster at the event and helps organize what items will be available to refugees. It will also allow refugees to personalize their First Step kit by selecting items that are available and specific to their needs. The donor and the refugee have sign-in pages that will direct them to fill in information for the system. We have several bundles to pick from, as a refugee once you have selected a bundle you may select from a range of items that have been donated. Refugees will confirm their selection and then receive a ticket with a time and location which they can pick up their personalized kit.

what i learned

This UX / UI project encouraged our group to push a brand identity into a brand system. This pop-up event was based on Break Bread Break Borders, a non-profit organization. We took some of their values and created a way to bring multiple aspects of the community together. Overall I learned how to communicate with a variety of people, our target audience for this project didn’t only speak English.
